Business Group Applauds March Payroll Data
The members of the American Business Conference (ABC), CEOs of fast-growing, midsize American companies, today applauded data from the Commerce Department indicating that employment growth in March 2004 expanded at the fastest rate in four years. Commenting on the March figures, John Endean, ABC's president said
"Our CEO-members are pleased with, but not especially surprised by, the strong growth in non-farm payrolls in March. The fact is our economy has been staging a strong recovery for some months now. It was only a matter of time before companies would begin to hire. And keep in mind: when firms expand their payrolls, they are betting on more economic growth to come. While a lagging indicator of recovery, job growth is a bellwether for the future.
This is great news that should be welcomed by every American."
The American Business Conference is a Washington-based coalition of chief executives of fast-growing midsize American companies. ABC members advocate policies to promote economic growth and a higher standard of living for all Americans.
